Implementing Evidence-Based Standards of Care for Chronic Constipation

Virtual Lecture

Chronic constipation is one of the most frequent GI diagnoses in ambulatory medicine clinics, and often results in referrals to gastroenterologists. In this webcast, national gastroenterology experts review the diagnosis of chronic constipation, differentiating between irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC), and provide recommendations for nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply a guideline-recommended approach to the diagnosis of IBS-C and CIC, including appropriate testing

  • Utilize recommended nonpharmacologic strategies for the management of IBS-C and CIC

  • Select therapies for IBS-C and CIC based on efficacy and safety evidence and guideline recommendations
