The introduction of direct-acting antivirals has transformed the management of patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). These agents, given orally, have unparalleled therapeutic efficacy and tolerability, yielding cure rates well above 90%—usually within 8 to 12 weeks. These developments afford primary care clinicians an opportunity to participate in improved HCV care through screening, treatment, and long-term management of infected patients.

- Identify patients who are candidates for specific HCV therapeutic protocols based on prior treatment history and complicating comorbidities
