New Options for Managing Parkinson’s Disease: An Update

Text Module

Early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) before significant disability occurs can greatly improve quality of life. Although progression rate is variable, the disease eventually leads to significant disability. Patients often have comorbidities that must be considered in the treatment plan. This CE/CME BriefCase emphasizes the important role primary care practitioners play in identifying PD, coordinating specialist care, helping patients adhere to their treatment plans, and managing motor and nonmotor signs and symptoms, including management of off episodes, as the disease progresses. Patient cases illustrate key points in screening, diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and patient counseling.
