A Focus on Dry Eye Disease: The Role of Primary Care


Dry eye disease (DED) is a common disease among adults that can negatively impact routine activities of daily living. Recognition and appropriate management of dry eye is important to avoid complications. Through an interactive case study, this activity will provide guidance on symptoms and differential diagnosis of dry eye, pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management of dry eye in the primary care setting, and when to refer individuals to a specialist.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Assess patients for risk factors and symptoms of DED

  • Implement therapeutic strategies for optimal management of DED, including referral to specialists

  • Formulate strategies to help address adherence to therapy and lifestyle changes to manage DED
