Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a chronic, treatable medical condition that affects more than 2 million people in the United States. Not only does OUD affect the individual, it places a burden on the healthcare system and society as a whole. As such, healthcare professionals, treatment providers, and policymakers have a responsibility to be competent in and expand access to evidence-based, effective care for people with OUD.
