In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), data suggest that collaborative teams of rheumatologists and NPs/PAs can augment the quality of care provided by rheumatologists alone. In this module, an expert panel examines the growing shortage of rheumatologists, and how, in the context of RA, NPs and PAs can improve patient care, improve practice efficiency, and help communities gain greater access to rheumatology services.
This activity was developed in collaboration with the Association of Women in Rheumatology (AWIR).
After completing this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Summarize evidence for the need for and potential role of NPs and PAs in rheumatology practices
- Develop strategies for the team-based care of rheumatology patients that enables NPs and PAs to provide patient care at the highest level of their licenses
- Identify current and emerging treatments for RA, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis, relative to indications, safety profiles, and monitoring considerations
