A Focus on Special Populations: Optimizing Direct Oral Anticoagulant Use for Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation

There are misconceptions about use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) to prevent stroke in special populations of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Recent evidence shows that with appropriate selection, DOACs can be safely used to prevent stroke in patients with AF who are elderly, have chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), or who have obesity. In this 1-hour webcast, 2 cardiology experts review the evidence and latest guidance for treatment of these populations with DOACs. Cases demonstrate assessment of bleeding risk and key decision points for managing each type of scenario.
