Targeting Huntington’s Disease: Current and Emerging Options

Text Module

Huntington’s disease (HD) is an inherited, progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that results in cognitive impairment, psychiatric/behavioral changes, and impaired motor function, including characteristic chorea. Although trials investigating disease-modifying therapies are in progress, there is currently no cure for HD, and the average life expectancy is 15-20 years after diagnosis. Disease management focuses on alleviating symptoms, maximizing function, and optimizing quality of life. In this activity, Victor W. Sung, MD, addresses key topics in the management of adult-onset HD, including early recognition and diagnosis, current and emerging therapies, advances in chorea treatments, and the role of primary care clinicians in multidisciplinary management.
