  • Bipolar depression can be debilitating to patients, and difficulties in appropriate diagnosis and comorbidities can add to the challenge. This presentation will explore these challenges, as well as a treatment option approved for BOTH bipolar I and bipolar II depression in adults.

  • This session will review the differential diagnosis of bipolar depression and differentiation of bipolar I and bipolar II to improve diagnostic accuracy. Treatment individualization will be discussed, including current and emerging treatment options for bipolar depression and how to individualize treatment selection for patients.

2:55 PM – 3:55 PM: Arguments for Augmentation: When to Augment vs Switch Medications in MDD
Presented by: Michael Asbach, DMSc, PA-C, Psych-CAQ

  • This session will provide an overview of differentiating switching and augmentation strategies for patients with lack of response in MDD. Evidence-based augmentation strategies, including antidepressants with different mechanisms of action, antipsychotics, and other agents recommended by guidelines, will be further discussed, and reinforced with a patient case demonstration.

4:05 PM – 5:05 PM: PTSD in the Community
Presented by: Tamar Rodney, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, CNE

  • This session will focus on manifestations of trauma in the community setting, diagnosis of PTSD, and current evidence-based treatment of PTSD with pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy tools. Emerging treatment options for PTSD will also be covered.
