Happy Nurse Practitioner Week

Happy Nurse Practitioner Week Posted By:
...

National Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week is celebrated this year from November 7-13. The theme for 2021 is "NPs going the extra mile." The American Association of NPs (AANP) founded National NP Week in 2014 as a way to celebrate the role and wonderful impact of NPs on patients and healthcare.

Currently, there are more than 325,000 licensed NPs in the United States. Twenty-four states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands have implemented full practice authority for NPs, granting patients full and direct access to care from NPs.

What can you do to celebrate this week?

  • Connect with friends, colleagues, and students via text, card, social media, etc
  • Submit personal testimonials, photos, and videos to the AANP thanking NPs for going the extra mile
  • Invite local, state, and/or federal officials to tour your practice and share a day with an NP
  • Write an editorial for your local paper about the significance of NPs in your area
  • Encourage a local authority (eg, governor, mayor, city council manager) to sign an NP Week proclamation. NPs in Georgia submitted the first proclamation to be signed in 2021, by Governor Brian Kemp. See if your state has its proclamation signed yet.
  • Provide a flu clinic or a health fair to answer questions about the role of NPs and the ways patients can access NP care
  • Start a conversation on Twitter using the #NPWeek and #WeChooseNPs hashtags, and post celebratory messages on other social media sites
  • Contact a veterans' group and explore opportunities to celebrate Veterans Day (Thursday 11/11) in conjunction with NP Week, focusing on NP care for military families
  • Participate as an NP ambassador in the Veterans Day parade where you live
